About Brian Corrigan

Brian Corrigan is a dedicated criminal defense attorney who has devoted his career to representing individuals in Rockwall and across North Texas who have been accused, investigated, or charged with State or Federal Crimes. Brian Corrigan has tried over 150 jury trials and handled over 2,000 felony and misdemeanor cases in crimes ranging from driving while intoxicated and family violence to drug trafficking, white collar crime, child abuse, and murder. He is also board certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

After graduating from the SMU Dedman School of Law, Corrigan began his career as a trial prosecutor for the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.  Corrigan promoted quickly through the ranks. At different times, he was assigned to the misdemeanor division, the family violence division, the child abuse division, and the felony trial division. Corrigan rose to the position of Felony Court Chief of Criminal District Court #4.

After seven years as a prosecutor in Dallas, Corrigan left Dallas County to be the First Assistant District Attorney in the Kaufman County District Attorney's Office.  In that position, Corrigan was the top felony trial court prosecutor in the county as well as the 2nd in command to the elected District Attorney. In addition to his supervisory duties, Corrigan handled a full felony caseload and was a trusted advisor to police detectives in all phases of criminal investigations, often advising on investigative strategy, charging decisions, or personally drafting or revising search warrants. Corrigan also ran one of the Grand Juries, presenting nearly a thousand felonies to the Grand Jury and conducting complex Grand Jury investigations.

Corrigan’s other achievements as a prosecutor include:

1.      Being promoted to the Felony Division in only 16 months after trying 60 misdemeanor jury trials.

2.      Trying and winning his first murder trial at the age of 27 only 20 months after becoming a licensed attorney.

3.      Never losing a Murder or Capital murder trial as a prosecutor including 11 murder trials and 6 capital murder trials.

4.      Lead prosecutor in the “Eddie Dean’s Murder Case,” the slaying of a Garland teenage football star outside the popular barbecue establishment in downtown Dallas. Corrigan tried and won the trial and the 16 year old defendant received 35 years in prison.

5.      Part of the prosecution trial team of the successful Sexual Assault prosecution of Steven Glen Smith, pastor of the Family of God Church of the Bible in Irving, for using counseling sessions and "exploiting emotional dependence" to obtain sexual contact with his congregants. He received 10 years in prison.

6.      Part of the prosecution trial team in the Daniel Griffin Capital Murder trial involving the murder of a Kaufman woman and the subsequent rape of her daughter. Griffin received 3 Life sentences and will not be eligible for parole until he is nearly 110 years old.

After a decade as a prosecutor, Corrigan left the D.A.’s Office to become a criminal defense attorney in private practice zealously represent citizens in Dallas, Rockwall, and surrounding counties accused of criminal offenses. Corrigan has vast experience in nearly every crime in the Penal Code including but not limited to DWI, theft, misappropriation of fiduciary property, assault, family violence, injury to a child, aggravated assault, aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, drug possession, drug trafficking, murder, and engaging in organized criminal activity.

As a criminal defense lawyer, former high level prosecutor, and former advisor to law enforcement, Corrigan has an insider’s understanding of the workings of the criminal justice system and its strengths and weaknesses. This gives him a great understanding of where criminal cases can be successfully attacked and negative consequences can be minimized or avoided altogether for his clients.
